Hi everyone,

Unfortunately Hart's Pub is closed. Shangri-La will use the location as a venue for private functions in the future. There will be no more S'n'B at the Hart's Pub!
The lovely little room with its couches and armchairs will be greatly missed.

The upside is: We're moving and still looking for a new location.

So, if you always wanted to joing S'n'B on Monday nights but didn't like Hart's Pub or thought it was too much out of your way: this is your chance to suggest a new location.

We are looking for a nice pub, cafe or the like, preferably in the CBD or easy to reach, with a good vibe to it, not too busy on monday nights and with enough room and light. If you know the place we are looking, just leave a comment or join the discussion on the S'n'B Sydney forum on www.ravelry.com.

The knit tag night was a riot and Valentine's morning was a sight to behold. To be honest I wasn't sure if any of them would make the night given how keen security usually are to get rid of such threatening and scary items, but most of them were still there in all their glory.

Sadly, it turned out I was lucky to get these shots when I did, because only moments later cleaners realised the terrible risk they were causing to humanity and took several of them down. Phew, thank goodness we have the boys in orange to keep us safe. Here they are saving us from the pink peril:

And here's the moment when several days worth of knitting make their way to their final resting place. RIP. Amen.

There was however, one adornment that didn't end up binside, and that was the scarf and trotter cuffs on Il Porcillino, the wild boar who stands outside the Sydney Hospital:

Turns out Il Porcy is used to a little flashy garb from time to time. Being Italian, I suppose that fits.

Porcy's trotter cuffs have heart labels that ask "Do my trotters look big in this?". Some other Valentine's-appropriate labels for the evening included:

2. Sorry I didn't apologise earlier. John.

3. Thanks for putting out the garbage.

Thanks to everyone who came along and made it a very memorable farewell party. I am thinking that a knit tagging event like this is something we should do on a regular basis. Maybe I will even find some people in Canberra to do this too!

My Darling, My Lamp post

For those of a certain age who remember the Young Adult books by Paul Zindel, it may seem like an attempted homage. However, it also had to do with Valentines Day (My darling) and the idea of knittagging to handy items in Martin Place (My lamppost). As it was we didn't manage the lamppost and used a tree instead. The pink tag on the right of the screen has "My darling, my Lamppost" written on it.

If you look closely you may be able to see a heart design in the centre.

Apparently, not many of the tags survived for long the next day, but stay tuned for more photos.

Sydney stitch n bitch knit tagging event!

On Wednesday night this week Sydney Stitch n Bitch is having a knit tag night (see http://www.boingboing.net/2006/04/22/knitta-please-urban-.html) in the city to say goodbye to one of our members who is leaving for Canberra. That's the night before Valentine's Day so we'll be tagging on a love theme, to give the commuters something to see the next day. If you are interested in coming along drop us a line in the comments field on this post and we'll give you the details. It's only a couple of days away but it only takes an evening to knock up a couple of squares or rectangles to put up somewhere and we will have a couple of spares, so feel free to come along even if you don't have time to prepare.

Tapestry Craft Sale

Most Sydney sider would have heard, but a friendly birdtold me that Tapestry Craft is holding a Garage Sale this weekend. On top of this, shipping is free for February! Definitely worth a look for those who doesn't have the luxury to shop in person.

Here's a picture from the last Hart's Pub SnB knitting. Ms Shy finished a rectangle (to become part of a Sydney Stitch n Bitch knit-tagging extravaganza).

I've called it 'trainwreck knitting' because with that yarn she used, it is one of those times when you know you shouldn't look, but you just can't tear your eyes away.

Just letting you know that Worldwide Knitting in Public Day will be taking place this Saturday, June 9, from 2pm at the Sidewalk Cafe + Bar at the Opera House (the lower concourse near the water). You can learn more about it on the official website - though they still haven't gotten around to posting our details. Food and wine are available, but we're not sure how many tables we'll be able to commandeer so if anybody has those nice folding chairs, bring them along!

I offloaded two more tags last night with the help of another SnBer, a non-knitting spouse and a sizeable amount of beer. Thanks to all three of them. The pics aren't great because it was a night drop but you can see Circular Quay in the background...just:

Anyway, these pics are the best you are going to see. I went back there this morning to get a better shot in the daylight and, at 10 in the morning, they were already gone. I would love to think that they were taken by some happy drunk or tourist last night but I know in reality it would have been security removing them in the name of keeping us all safe. I mean, who knows when all that fun fur was gonna blow?

Last night at Hart's Pub we had a tourist come along, visiting from Madison, Wisconsin. Only one hour after touching down in Sydney, she was sitting in the lounge with us. Such is the great importance of knitting! Note the travel-friendly needles in the following picture:

Manly meeting

Forgot to post this for some reason, but the first Manly meeting last week was a lot of fun. We had a small, but keen group meeting up for the first time sitting next to a rather cosy, fake fireplace.

For any potential newcomers, just ask for the Lounge Bar, which is slightly hidden away from the rest of the Manly Wharf Hotel. It's hidden behind some bamboo panneling, and has a retro orange theme.

Harts knitting is on tonight

See everyone at the Harts Pub, Corner Essex and Gloucester Streets in the Rocks, from 6pm or so, down in the little lounge room at the front (or upstairs if there are bozo's taking over the lounge!). If you're there on time and noone's shown up - hang in there, people might just be running late!

Knit in 2006

In case you're free on the 28th of July between 6.30 and 11am in the morning 702 ABC Sydney is gearing up for its fourth annual Knit In.

"It's now time to pick up your needles and get knitting; and also time to hunt out any spare wool you may have lying around your home.

Last year's Knit In was a huge success with a record number of squares and wraps created. It was all part of the "Wrap with Love" cause, a non-profit organisation who knitted squares into wraps for communities around the world to ensure no-one suffers from the cold.

Over 42,000 squares, totalling over 1,500 completed wraps, were knitted during last year's campaign. So, can we do better than that this year?"

The Manly sessions are back up and running and the first one of those will be 11 July 2006. Keep posted for any changes, and send us a comment/email if you find us lacking further in our admin!

This is the first posting for the Sydney Stitch n Bitch knitting group blog! Through this blog we will endeavour to keep all you knitters out there in touch with Stitch session times and dates, and events happening in knitting-land in and around Sydney, and also keep you up to date with the latest finished (and unfinished) objects that people are knitting in the group.

Have a look at the times and see when you can make a session at either the Rocks or Manly venue - we'd love to meet you. Keep in mind that we are also other-craft friendly, so if it's cross-stitch or origami that you're into, feel free to pop along and meet other crafty-minded folk.
